Supporting Resilience & Self-Esteem in Children:
A Workshop for Rooftop School K-5 Caregivers
Tuesday April 14th
5:30-7 pm
Burnett Campus Wellness Center, Rm 110
(childcare provided by CASA)
Throughout our lives we will encounter a variety of challenges; between stressors in relationships, high workloads and busy schedules, difficult life events, and a multitude of other potential obstacles, we all need to build and maintain a high level of resiliency in order to move through challenges to lead happy, successful lives. Research has shown that belief in oneself—one’s self-esteem—is highly correlated with one’s ability to overcome the inevitable life challenges to be faced. And the earlier in life we begin to build to build that belief in ourselves, the stronger that foundation of resilience will be.
Using a multidisciplinary and participatory approach involving psychoeducation, guided conversation, and experiential exercises, this workshop will provide you with foundational tools to promote a lifetime of confidence and resilience for your children. Facilitated by Lily Cardasis, MFTI, and offered through CASA’s Health & Wellness Program, this workshop is free to all Rooftop parents and designed specifically to meet the needs of the Rooftop community. Space is limited and an RSVP is required—so don’t wait to sign up!

Managing Childhood Anxiety
A Rooftop Parent/Teacher Workshop
Thursday September 18th, 2015
5:15-7 pm
Burnett Campus Multipurpose Room
(Childcare provided by CASA)
This workshop examines anxiety in childhood, including its various symptoms, causes, and treatment options. Our discussion will include a look at the DSM anxiety disorder diagnoses as well as a broader study of the types of things that can potentially cause anxiety in childhood. Signs and symptoms that are physical, cognitive/emotional, as well as behavioral will be examined, and we will explore tools and techniques for helping your child to overcome his or her anxiety. We will look at childhood anxiety from various theoretical viewpoints such as Cognitive-Behavioral theory, Bronfenbrenner's Ecological Systems theory, and from a Liberation Psychological orientation. This workshop is an excellent resource for parents who have identified signs of anxiety in their child as well as those who just want to stay informed and alert so they can recognize early signs should they manifest in the future. We hope to see you there!
